The Center for Biblical Hebrew (CBH) was established in 1995 in response to a growing public interest in learning more about the original Hebrew text of the Bible.
CBH promotes teaching the text of the Bible in its original Hebrew form. The goal of CBH is to provide Torah and Hebrew knowledge to all who are interested, objectively, in a non-denominational, unbiased, and informative environment.

National Hebrew Learning Program
For the past 15 years the Center for Biblical Hebrew has been involved in teaching Hebrew to all who were interested regardless of religious or theological views. During these years we observed a tremendous increased interest in the Hebrew language and the original Hebrew text of the Bible.
Newly formed communities and Bible study groups also showed a keen interest in the Hebrew language. Many were seeking a deeper understanding of the Biblical text that can be attained only by incorporating a knowledge of the original Hebrew.
Historically, our founding fathers knew Hebrew. It was one of the languages competing for the privilege of being the official language spoken in America. I feel that reviving the Hebrew language in America is an idea whose time has come, at least among those who love the Bible and its values.
The Center for Biblical Hebrew has created a new, National Hebrew Learning Program. Its goal is to have interested individuals, groups, and communities reading, writing, and conversing with each other in Hebrew, within one year. To date we have over fifty members from all over the U.S., Canada and England, in our new virtual community. Join us and succeed in using Hebrew for everyday conversation with like-minded, eager and motivated students at all levels of proficiency (or none!).

CBH takes the linguistic rather than religious approach to help those who are interested in Hebrew acquire some of the skills necessary to appreciate the Bible in its original Hebrew form.
CBH provides lectures and seminars in biblical and conversational Hebrew, and participates in conferences and tours to the State of Israel and the lands of the Bible in the pursuit of knowledge and understanding.
CBH also produces audio books, videotapes, books, publications, Internet based tools, and music based on the values of the Hebrew letters—all this and other media as needed for spreading the knowledge of the text of the Bible in its original Hebrew form.
No prior knowledge is needed to participate in any of the Center's activities, in the Center in Phoenix, or remotely by participating in CBH activities in other cities or on the Internet. All instructions and discussions are provided in English.
CBH activities are designed to further the knowledge of Hebrew and Torah among all people regardless of religious affiliation. We seek to reach all those who are interested in learning and provide them with the best tools to achieve their goals.
Hebrew tradition equates the TORAH to an ocean containing all that there is to know about the creation and about our universe. According to these traditions the Hebrew text of the Bible is not merely a collection of stories, but a very sophisticated vessel containing a vast amount of vitally important information. To decipher and understand some of this knowledge requires an in-depth examination of the original text and a discussion of its original language: Hebrew.
CBH believes that understanding of the ancient original Hebrew text of the Bible can make a remarkable difference in the world today. The morals and values transmitted from within its pages are universal truths present in most western law forms and societal systems of modern times. In order to harness these incredible guiding forces to the benefit of mankind, we need to develop our understanding of what they are and how they operate. This information may be vital to human survival on this planet, as individuals and as societies, offering a sane alternative to radical and destructive ideologies prevalent in the world today. By investing effort in teaching Hebrew and Torah we hope to help facilitate reverence, understanding and closeness to the divine word and to the people who kept it alive for 3500 years.

How Accurate is our Torah?
Our Torah scroll is perhaps our most revered physical possession today. The honor and respect with which we handle our Torah in synagogue results from our knowledge that it contains the words of Hashem as dictated to Moshe over 3300 years ago. Meticulous care has been taken to insure the proper transmission of the Torah.
There are many factors which collectively contribute to the wholeness of the Torah, but perhaps the single most important factor is the orthography, or proper spelling of each word. In fact, the orthography of the Torah is considered so important that the scribe is instructed to "be careful with your task, for it is sacred work; if you add or subtract even a single letter, [it is as if] you have destroyed the entire world!" (Eruvin 13a).
