ABOUT US
Center for Biblical Hebrew, Phoenix, Arizona USA
The Center for Biblical Hebrew (CBH) was formed in 1995 in response to a growing demand by the general public to learn more about the original document of the Bible.
The text of the five books of Moses (the TORAH) was written in the Hebrew language, and so were the other books of the Hebrew Bible (TANAKH). Most people recognize that information, knowledge, and understanding of this document diminish greatly when translated from Hebrew to any other language. Therefore, the need arises for a reliable and unbiased source to explain the difference between the original and the translations.
Hebrew tradition equates the TORAH to an ocean containing all that there is to know about the creation and about our universe. According to these traditions the Hebrew text of the Bible is not merely a collection of stories, but a very sophisticated vessel containing a vast amount of vitally important information. To decipher and understand some of this knowledge requires an in-depth examination of the original text and a discussion of its original language: Hebrew.
The Purpose of the Center for Biblical Hebrew is to help build positive bridges over the gap between those who hold the knowledge of the original Hebrew text of the Bible, and those who seek it but don't have easy access to it.
CBH promotes teaching the text of the Bible in its original Hebrew form. The goal of CBH is to teach objectively, in a non-denominational, unbiased, and informative environment, to anyone who is interested. CBH takes the linguistic rather than religious approach to help those who don't know Hebrew acquire some of the skills necessary to appreciate the Bible in its original form.
CBH provides lectures, seminars, classes, conferences and tours to the State of Israel and the lands of the Bible in the pursuit of knowledge and understanding. CBH also produces audio books, videotapes, books, publications, Internet Web Pages, music based on the values of the Hebrew letters and other media as needed for spreading the knowledge of the Hebrew Bible and the Hebrew language.
No prior knowledge is needed to participate in any of the Center's activities. All instructions and discussions are in English. The purpose of learning about the secrets of Hebrew is not always fluency in the language, but rather to facilitate reverence, understanding and closeness to the divine word and to the people who kept it alive for 3500 years.
CBH also distributes a free newsletter to update its subscribers on the Center's activities, to provide free educational aid to learning Hebrew, and to promote understanding to the contribution this unique ancient language and people have made to the world.
CBH believes that understanding of the ancient original Hebrew text of the Bible can make a remarkable difference in the world today. The morals and values transmitted from within its pages are universal truths present in most western law forms and societal systems of modern times. In order to harness these incredible guiding forces to the benefit of mankind, we need to develop our understanding of what they are and how they operate. This information may be vital to human survival on this planet, as individuals and as societies, offering a sane alternative to radical and destructive ideologies prevalent in the world today.
The Center is located in
